In Service To Your Country
There are things in life you never forget. When you lose your father in combat it qualifies. When I saw this video I had to pay attention about how that child feels and the memories he has of his father who gave it his all so that many of us can continue on.
I lost my father in the Korean War three months before I was born so I can relate to this young man. I have no dog tags, or wedding ring, as a memory since not a trace was ever found of my own father. I don't want anyone's sympathy because I don't need it. My father was doing something he believed in just as Myle's father was. They both gave it their all for this nation and I am grateful for that sacrifice. Are you?
Recently, and I mean real recently, a member of this very forum wrote a Hub labeling me as a racist. I can tell you, having served honorably for 23 years in the US Army myself, that I don't play those games. When, and if, anyone in this nation has to pull out the "race card" as their last resort it speaks of their character, not mine. I find it more and more despicable that the citizens of this nation have to resort to labeling anyone racist because there are those who don't buy into failed policies of any politician no matter who they are.
Service and sacrifice in the military is much different than what we view as "public service." Most of those performing supposed "public service" have no intention of being a public servant. They are there to serve themselves so wake up to that. Our entire federal government is about as dysfunctional as I have ever seen it and I've watched for six decades plus now. In the military you literally have your "skin" in the game. These feckless politicians we have bloviating all over our TV screens have nothing in the game but their mouths.
I learned to take bloviating blogging commenters in stride. Many of them lack life's true experiences and have never walked that mile, nor will they ever. In fact they have avoided it. Little Myles has more cajones than a lot of these supposed adults who opine without a clue. He lost his father and he honors that loss in a most humble way. I can only hope that when Myles grows up he will continue that tradition that his father upheld. He is proud of his father and I am sure proud of this nation. How very proud his father would be of his son who wrote a note and tucked that $20 bill that someone else lost saying:
“Dear Soldier — my dad was a soldier. He’s in heaven now. I found this 20 dollars in the parking lot when we got here. We like to pay it forward in my family. It’s your lucky day! Thank you for your service. Myles Eckert, a gold star kid.”
In the course of my travels as a retired vet I have met many Gold Star family members. I am one myself. I am constantly amazed at the citizens of this nation I encounter who have no respect for the honor and tradition that is encased in this nation and those freedoms we hold dear.
If you are young I suggest you give of yourself to the continued cause of freedom. Many people here in our country now think freedom is free. Ask Myles how free it is. When Myles spotted LTC Daley entering that Cracker Barrel he knew what he had to do. Do you? He saw his father in a different light and in a different persona and I am sure his father must have smiled down upon his son as he gave of himself. It had little to do with a $20 bill and everything to do with the proud heart of a young boy and the memory of his fallen father. The father he never knew.
May God bless you and keep you Myles. And may those who know the value of freedom and liberty triumph over the evil that has descended upon this nation and made people the selfish "it's all about me" mongers they have become so prevalent in our country.
So for those who have no spine I suggest you hide. Your baseless attacks, and in some cases outright plagiarism, are I sign of the sickening disease that has consumed your minds. Obama's new approval rating has hit 38% and rightfully so. It has nothing to do with racism and everything to do with his weakness and incompetence.
Hopefully children like Myles will not have to pay the price for his inability to lead. They will though as the national debt rises and we continue to allow arrogant people with money to lead this nation to the brink.
I personally don't celebrate the fact that Obama is being taken to task by a former KGB agent. I was a cold warrior myself for too many years. But Obama lacks the experience and qualifications to lead this nation. He has shown his true self and the world sees it. His sheeple might deny it but it is what it is. Keep the faith Myles. LTC Daley many thanks for a job well done. Many of us still appreciate what you do and will continue to do.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: The following was translated into English from an article in the Prague newspaper, "Prager Zeitungon".
“The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.
The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their President.”
