They're On A Feeding Frenzy
If you ever want to watch "The Theater Of The Absurd," just tune into either the Cartoon Channel or MSNBC. Usually though, the Cartoon Channel will be less absurd to watch than the adult version which is known as MSNBC. What amazes me is that MSNBC is a money pit for NBC but they continue to prop it up. So today as I was reading the news I ran across some more absurd reporting and there's a lot out there to choose from on the Lame Stream Media.
I'm penning this about Sarah Palin and know the blogger trolls will troucne and vicisiously pound their "Vote Down" button. Do I care? Hardly. Anytime someone even mentions this woman's name some people begin to foam at the mouth and twitch like a worm on a hot rock. Foam and twitch away haters of Sarah Palin. We enjoy watching your reaction and evidently so does she.
In case you aren't aware, Sarah is out on a bus tour. If you don't know that you must live in a cave. The expressed intent of the tour is to promote the US Constitution, American values and the betterment of our nation. This is driving the Lame Stream Media absolutely crazy. Why?
The reason in a nutshell is because Sarah has the common sense to shut them out. I would too if they had treated me and my family like the Lame Stream Media has treated this woman since she arrived on the national scene. They're afraid of smart, good looking, conservative women who actually have a voice with which to speak intelligently She's "one of those types" they mutter under their breath. They are following her along like lost sheep and she is Bo Peep. They want to know where she's going next, who she is talking to and what times of the day the lady uses the bathroom. The Lame Stream Media Gestapo hard at work. It seems to me she is a private citizen conducting a private tour and doesn't need a pack of jackasses on her tail.
So along comes one of the Masters of the Absurd in the name of Martin Bashir from MSNBC to totally distort the facts as usual. He doesn't seem to like Sarah, more people are watching her than him evidently. He probably used the worst tool imaginable to try to blast away at Sarah - the American flag. According to this moronic talking head, Palin "could be" breaking the law by displaying the American flag on her tour, the bus in particular. I see it as a symbol of patriotism no matter where it is displayed. He seems to disagree and wants to cite the law. I'll get to that in a minute. Excuse his accent.
Sounds a little bitter doesn't he? Makes a lot of assumptions, doesn't he? No one is sure what Sarah is up to and she's not letting the cat out of the bag and it's driving them GaGa, not to be confused with Lady Gaga. So lets just pretend and contend that what she is doing is a "breach of federal law." Lets also contend that there are little green men on Mars while we're at it. So now lets go to what he said and send in down in factual flames.
The US Flag Code is not a federal law. Being an old crusty soldier, I knew that before the idiot opened his yap. In 1989, the Supreme Court ruled that flag burning is protected by the First Amendment. It's a protected form of speech and perfectly legal. I never cheered that ruling because if you want to burn it, please don't do it in front of me. I might go ballistic on you. So according to Bashir's twisted form of logic, it's legal to burn it but not display it on a tour bus? Take her to the Supreme Court Marty and see who has what legal rights. Maybe Marty will start incurring the wrath of the "law," which it isn't at all, whenever we display Old Glory at our Tea Party Events.
It isn't a law atall. The US Flag Code is a voluntary thing. Maybe Martin just got confused as he is known to do. Here's the way the non-partisan Congressional Service put it in a 2008 report to Congress:
“While wearing the colors may be in poor taste and offensive to many, it is important to remember that the Flag Code is intended as a guide to be followed on a purely voluntary basis to insure proper respect for the flag.”
Seems the talking head needs to get his facts straight before he opens his pie hole and save those of us who actually deal in facts a few key strokes to refute his nonsense.
Many of us recognize a smear campaign when we see it Bashir. And one wonders why Sarah wants nothing to do with The Lame Stream Media? I sure don't and admire the woman for shunning the lepers of supposedly "objective" reporting. Go Sarah Go. That's from one American patriot to another little lady. Keep driving them nuts Sarah. You're doing a wonderful job!
Oh, as we approach 2012, we can expect more of the left wing spinning the unspinnable but I'll fly in under the radar for those of us who desire the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. The truth here is that no law has been broken. The US Flag Code isn't a law. Juournalist should maybe stick to subjects they know something about which these days on the Lame Stream Media wouldn't be much.

Martin Bashir is a lunatic or at least another Un-American so-called reporter from a so-called lame stream media. And I resent even more such garbage coming from someone with an accent. You can burn it but can not fly/display it on a tour bus!!! What non-sense, but I'm sure some folks will take his side; which is about as close to hanging off a cliff as you can get.

It seems that stomping on and burning the American flag by illegal aliens demanding their 'rights' and removing it from federal buildings such as the US Post Office in CA to replace it with the Mexican flag a year or two back is perfectly OK with the libs because it is "freedom of speech", but displaying it on a tour bus is supposedly 'advertising' and against the law!
BTW, how many genuine commercial ads show the flag around the fourth of July and Memorial day to sell everything from furniture to used cars? Tell this sanctimonious SOB to file a suit against even ONE of these companies, and we may ponder his idiot remarks a bit more carefully!

Pool man. I have to disagree. Very few people on the left fear Palin. Most are willing to contribute money to her campaign. Nothing would serve the left any better than Palin receiving the Republican nomination. What exactly is the reason so many feel she is what this country needs? It can't be her record in public office. She quit halfway thru her term as Gov to avoid paying for her defense in a bunch of ethics violations. She has no international experience and is considered to be a joke by a large portion of people around the world. The only thing I have seen that some people could get behind is her belief in god and guns. That these two things are enough to get elected president is a sad commentary on the state of this country, in my opinion.
I don't pay attention to what any of these talking heads anymore than I pay attention to the republican training grounds that the faux news network has become. 8 out of 10 possible republican canidates are employed by the Faux News Network. How does one claim to offer fair and balanced news coverage when you are employed full time primping and priming the entire republican party?
There are things about this that I agree with and things I don't. For starters, private citizens just don't go on private tour. There is a reason she is doing what she is doing and of course it is going to attract attention. Half of her 'charm' if you will is her ability to garnish so much media attention. Failing to answer any question directly, ever, lends a mystery about her that drives the gossip hounds crazy. People feel that there should be a lack of privacy and they cannot fathom how someone could be so secretive. It is a ploy but it works for her.
As a person, I like her. I shoot, I hunt, I served my country and would do it again if I could. I relate to her. As a political figure, I cannot support her. I do not feel she has the proper background to aspire to DC. Then again perhaps that may be for the best. I don't know. The only thing I know is that she is riding a wave and doing what she believes is the right thing. Time will tell if she is right or not.

I have to accept Sarah at her word about her tour of America. She has never given me a reason to doubt her word which is diametrically opposite of Obama who hasn't ever even run a lemonade stand.
Anyway Chica, I have watched a few of the interviews Sarah has granted on the tour. She's concerned that what funds are available will run out before the bus gets where it is going. Then some left wing loon like Bashir makes such a ridiculous statement as he made, especially concerning her having broken federal law. Totally baseless and over the cliff which I have come to expect from the Cartoon Channel (MSNBC).

I've learned a lot over the years. While at Oklahoma Univ. in 1970, two police officers pulled me over. It was at my fraternities drive way. They said they were sorry, but they were ordered to take the first American Flag tee-shirt they saw someone wearing. Bingo, I was wearing one.
We walked to my room, and I gave them the shirt. They then said, this was gong to be used as evidence at the Oklahoma Supreme Court. Per the ruling it was returned to me, and people were allowed to wear it.
That should be a trivia question. That may be the only shirt to appear before a State Supreme Court. It always seemed to be me! H

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution – about which Palin claims to be an authority – was adopted on December 15, 1791 — almost 17 years *AFTER* Paul Revere’s ride on April 18, 1775.
Explain to me why anyone would fear this woman making a runway waltz at the whitehouse. Do most Americans desire a president that doesn't know her American history. I appearantly missed my history clas that detailed Paul Revere writing the 2nd amendment to the unwritten Constitution of a country that hadn't even been formed yet.
Does the right actually think this is what we need in the whitehouse? I this the example of America that we want to send around the world to discuss grave matters with intelligent people? Can Sarah Palin open her mouth and not make a fool out of herself? No she can't and I repeat, I will send money to help her get the republican nomination. Please run this woman for president, pretty please. You can't refudiate the sencerity of my plea now can you?

Thanks OP. Her way with words borders on Bush level brilliance. Mit Romney is an interesting guy. You have to appreciate his record. He has shown a willingness and ability to get things done. He doesn't seem to kiss the party's butt everytime he opens his mouth. I surely hope that Palin get's the nomination rather than Romney. Could actually have a race with him running. I haven't done enough research into his political history but I have already done more than most voters today. If you do any you are well above the majority of Americans. I know trhat his religion will be a problem with those here in the bible belt and this is a bonus for Palin. Peace my friend, it may shape up to be an interesting presidential race yet.

The website notes that Rick Santorum, Mike Huckabee, Newt Gingrich and, of course, Sarah Palin have all expressed interest in a potential run for president. All four are paid political commentators for Fox News.
"With the exception of Mitt Romney, Fox now has deals with every major potential Republican presidential candidate not currently in elected office,"
Will the canidates remaim fox property thru out the election? Will fox allow other networks access to them or will fox news determine every item that gets released to the public? Is fox attempting to become the clearing house for the whitehouse? Why do so many people think that a news service should be controlling access to the whitehouse? Donald Trump can be added to this list as he actually repeated the birth certifcate line of crap. He was repeating the party line that's currently being written at fox news.

As long as Palin is involved I will feel pretty good about Obama remaining for a second term. Romney strikes me as being to smart to allow Palin anywhere near his campaign. Huckabee announced he wasn't running, and Fox terminated Gingrich and Santorium's contracts on May 1. That leaves ZERO (0), announced candidates employed by Fox. So much for your updated information; more like a pack of lies that you didn't think anyone would check. That's the problem with you Liberals; you throw real slick slippery stuff on the wall and expect it to stick.

As usual, another fantastic thread. The reality is that the liberals in the MSM can't stand any conservative with charisma. The MSM fears them because not only do they draw voters to the TPM cause, but the MSM can't rationally rebut anything they say. How does one construct a logical argument against obeying the Constitution, reducing federal debt, or eliminating wasteful regulations? It can't be done. So the only recourse is nonsense, like ad hominem attacks, lying, spreading fear of unfounded threats, pretending metaphor is incitement, and making "saturation news" out of minor factual errors in speeches (of course liberals never make such errors; that must be why there are never any MSM reports about them).

Good Hub Frog. Any today you learn something is a good day, and today I learned something. Thank you for that.
I'm no dummy, but I too believed that the rules about the flag were law, and have believed that for over forty years. Thank you for the education on that. I should have known better too, because I'm all the time reminding folks that the rules, regulations and policy that people manufacture do not carry the same weight as law.
I also think many in our country have forgotten this or never given it much thought. Our President claims correctly that we are a lawful nation. But in practice, we've become a nation of rules, regulations, codes, policy and other miscellaneous bureaucratic products that are beyond our people's capacity to keep up with. In fact, we’ve built businesses (like tax accountants) we can turn to try to keep us on the right side of those laws.
Perhaps this article will be a gentle nudge to newscasters to get their facts correct before publicly declaring them as facts. When they are in doubt, it would be nice if they preceded their un-validated comments with some sort indicator of how sure they are of what they claim.
Can we talk Stump Parrish into writing a fact based Hub on his claims about Fox News? Opinion is ok too, but it would be nice to have some presentation of facts to accompany the opinion.
FitnessJim - During my 23 years in the Army I used the code for various reasons, including burying deceased vets. I agree that people like Bashir seem to like to shoot from the lip rather than the hip. Reminds me of a poster here who wanted to spew opinion as fact.
Writing opinion should have a basis in fact that you could possibly use to back your opinion. That's a principle of sound debate. Liberal lip shooters are too easy to call their bluff.
TheFewTheProud is a long time friend and I know when he asks a question that requires facts, he already knows the factual answer. The whole exchange showed how far out on the limb a liberal will walk before we get to yield the chain saw to lop it off.
Being about as hardcore pro-Sarah as they come, I've come to enjoy her slips of the tongue--from an entirely different perspective. How 'bout a little poll with questions along the lines of:
"If you had to choose, would you rather have a President who flubbed a question about Paul Revere or one who insists the border fence with Mexico is BASICALLY COMPLETE?"
"If you had to choose, would you rather have a President who thought Lexington and Concord were in the state of New Hampshire or one who will force you to buy health insurance at the point of a gun called the I.R.S.?"

Ghost - I beliueve Sarah also knows there aren't 57 states. People best not start in on someone's flubs unless they want to be reminded of Obama. He thinks the national motto is "E Pluribus Unum." He told a European audience that and they probably believed him. Maybe he changed it, by executive decree, from "In God We Trust" since according to him we aren't a Christian nation.

Some people thrive on the left wing media frenzy. I ask that they consider this, in light of the fact that they are so compassionate about helping the disadvantaged. If all those outlets took just the money they wasted in swooping down on Alaska and reading over 24,000 e-mails and finding nothing, how many poor people could they have fed, housed and cared for? That's just their frenzy in Alaska. Some people really do need to wake up and start asking themselves the right questions. That was just one of them.

FP - Keep in mind there a few out there who believe everything this guy says. Why you ask? Because they are just like him and believe as he believes. If he stood before a crowd and yelled "follow me" a few would stand up and get in line. I could hope the intended destination led over a very high cliff, but it would probably be to throw eggs at Sarah Palin's bus.
